Resume for Wushu Scholar Mr. Xia Bohua


Mr. Xia Bohua, born in March 1937, distinguished Martial Art Scholar in the world, one of the ten Top Wushu Professors of China. The creator of Chinese Sanshou (Chinese style combat). Original home is in Liang County, Anhui Province. Currently lives in Beijing.

1957-was enrolled by Beijing Gymnasium Institute (Current Beijing Gymnasium University). At that point had studied Wushu for 4 years.

1961-1985-worked for BGU. From time to time, he had trained national wushu teams as teacher and coach. Taught postgraduate students for 4 years. Was invited by Capital Special Mission Policemen and Beijing Cinema Institute as Wushu Instructor.
In 1979, National Gymnasium Committee appointed him as coach-in-chief and start to create and train Sanshou Team.(From then on, he started to develop and research Sanshou style, Sanshou was created based on Traditional Chinese Wushu of combat).He had trained the first excellent coaches, athletes, teams and foreign students. .Based on his experience and research, Mr. Xia had published Sanshou monograph such as “Lectures for Sanshou Learner” “Research on Training for Sanshou Athletics of Wusu.” The theoretics have established a solid foundation for Chinese development of Sanshou.

1985-1986-was appointed as vice-director by Wushu Compiling leading Office of National Gymnasium Committee, The mission of the office was to collect all the Traditional Chinese Wushu from countryside of China. (Because almost all traditional wushu were originally from villages in ancient China.). Mr. Xia spent plenty of time to compile, inspect, evaluate and edit the wushu material from all over China. All main Wushu schools were edited into the book “China Wushu Fist & Instrument Catalog.” He acted an important role for the inheriting of Traditional Chinese Wushu and paid an outstanding achievement to develop Chinese Wushu.

1986-After establishment of China Wushu Research & Development Institute, he was appointed vice-director to responsible for theory department. In 1989, was promoted Director to manage general Wushu affairs and then worked as Director of technology department and Director of R&D.

1988-Was granted Associate Professor of Wushu. In 1993, was promoted Professor (Wushu Scholar) and national referee & international referee.

1995-Was awarded one of the ten Top Wushu Professors on the conference “100 Top Wushu People of China”, which held by China Wushu Association and Wushu Management Center of National Gymnasium Committee.

Mr. Xia has devoted his career for over 40 years. He said that he will never stop his researching and developing on Chinese Martial Arts in his life. Since years, he published many important books such as “Martial Arts”(curriculums of wushu for Chinese university), “China Wushu Elite” (published in Hong Kong), “History of China Wushu”, “China Sanshou”, “China Wushu Fist & Instrument Catalog”, “China Wushu cyclopaedia”, “ China Wushu Criterion Course of Duanwei on Technology & Theory”, “National Wushu Schools Curriculum.” These books have established a solid foundation to spread Traditional Chinese Wushu to the world. They also serve as good references to studying Chinese Wushu for foreign practitioners.

“Traditional Chinese Wushu was originated from China and belongs to all over the world” Mr. Xia said. He was invited as a Wushu Scholar, Coach and Referee by many countries, such as Japan, Switzerland, USSR, Russia, Korea, America, Canada, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines etc.. Many Wushu Practitioner with high level from International Wushu Federation were instructed on theory and technology by him.

1992-Mr Xia had worked as Director of Wushu for famous Teleplay “Western Journey” for one year. He also played important role in the Teleplay. From then on, became Mr. Liu Xiao lingtong’s Master (The leading actor of Western Journey, he is extremely famous in China).

1993-He was appointed as technology instructor of Wushu by the Record Movie “World of Wushu.” He visited many places of China with the Produce Team and involved in many roles on the movie also.

1998-In accordance with the regulation of Duanwei Rules of China Wushu, he was awarded “China Wushu the Eight Duanwei.” He was retired from China Wushu Research & Development Institute.”

In 2006, Mr. Xia was promoted “China Wushu the Ninth Duanwei.” This is the Top title for Wushu person in China. There are only 10 Wushu people to have the glory.
