Shaolin Nanyuan Wushu School
Shaolin Nanyuan Wushu School is a modern wushu school in Dengfeng County, Henan Province. It is located in the west suburbs of Dengfeng City. Facing Zhongyue Temple in the east and the world famous Shaolin Temple in the west and backed by the natural barrier of Lotus Mountain, the school is surrounded by the Taishi and Shaoshi Mountains. Zhengshao, Xushao and Dengluo expressways pass by the school and it takes less than an hour to get to the school from Zhengzhou International Aiport.
Like most wushu schools, it is a combined martial arts & education facility, with most of the students being from ages 10-18. The students train in the early morning and mid-late afternoon (depending on the time of year) and spend the time inbetween at school.
The school has achieved the status of being one of the "Top Ten Wushu Schools of Henan Province" and as well as being a "Henan Five Star Wushu School". Sutdents from this school have won 56 gold, 160 silver and over 300 bronze medals in competitions and contests at all levels, from local to international. Hundreds of foreign visitors have visited the school from countries like USA, France, Germany, Italy, UK and Japan, and all praised the school highly.Training Information
As with nearly all the schools in Dengfeng county, this school teaches primarily Shaolin Quan, although that is a very broad topic. The specific skills the student will be taught will vary based on the expertise of the coach that they pick or are assigned (see below for some information on some of the available coaches).
Currently there are no foreigners training at this school. Training for foreigners will be aided by a translator and will be separate from other students-- meaning for now if you go to this school you will have a private coach. Training is 4 hours a day with the private coach, with options to join another group (of Chinese students) or pay extra, to get more instruction time. Note however 4 hours of instruction (not just practice) is plenty for one day, and the student is encouraged to practice and review in addition to this time.
Facilities
The performance hall has a thick padded carpet as is found at Wushu competitions, and there are heavy-bags outdoors. Mats for practicing acrobatic maneuvers are also present.
