Executive Criterions of International Rank System of Chinese Wushu

The CWIDC has recently released an updated version of its guidelines for the International Wushu Ranking system. The updated information is below:

Article 1. Tenet
This Rank Criteria is created in particular to help enhance the health of the participants, promote the development of International Wushu, to raise the level of technique and theory of Wushu, and to establish a normative international system of Chinese Wushu rankings.

Article 2. Title of the Rank
Depending on the number of years engaged in full-time wushu practicing and activity, the level of technique and theory of Wushu, the moral quality of Wushu, and the achievements in internationally developing Wushu, the wushu grades for international practitioner are divided into Nine Ranks as follows:
– Elementary Grade: Rank 1, Rank 2, Rank 3
– Middle Grade: Rank 4, Rank 5, Rank 6
– Senior Grade: Rank 7, Rank 8, Rank 9

Article 3. Criteria for Rank Promotion

Rank Promotion of Elementary Grades
I – Those who have practised Wushu forms for 8 years or wushu Sanshou for 13 years, above 7 points on exam & evaluating of rank promotion and had education of Wushu moral, are eligible for rank promotion.

II – Those who have gained qualification of rank promotion for over 1 year, above 7.5 points from the required exam & evaluating of rank 1 to practice one set of barehanded boxing or Basic Sanshou and passed education of Wushu morals, may be promoted Rank 1.

III – Those who have held Rank 1 for over one year, above 8 points from the required exam & evaluating of Rank 2 to practice one set of barehanded boxing or Sanshou combination of attacking & defending and abide by Wushu moral, may be promoted to Rank 2.

IV – Those who have held Rank 2 for over 2 years, above 8.5 points of each item from the required exam & evaluating of Rank 3 to practise one set of barehanded boxing, one set of weaponary (the short or the long), or have gained above 8.5 points from the evaluating of Practical Sanshou skill and abide by Wushu moral, may be promoted to Rank 3.

Rank Promotion of Middle Grades
I – Those who have held Rank 3 for over 2 years and meet one of conditions listed as below, may be promoted to Rank 4.

1. Those who have gained the total points up to above 25.8 from the required exam & evaluating of Rank 4 for promotion competition to practice one set of barehanded boxing, one set of short weapon and one set of long weapon, above 75 points from the required exam of Wushu theory and emphasize culture of Wushu moral.


2. Those whose points can reach the scope of matriculate for the the required exam & evaluating of Rank 4 for promotion competition to practise Sanshou, above 75 points from the exam of Wushu theory and emphasize culture of Wushu moral.

1. Those who have gained the total points up to above 26.25 from the required exam & evaluating of Rank 5 for promotion competition to practice one set of barehanded boxing, one set of short weapon and one set of long weapon (or two sets of barehanded boxing) and one of the items can reach the scope of matriculate, above 80 points from the required exam of Wushu theory and emphasize culture of Wushu moral.


2. Those whose points can reach the scope of matriculate for the the required exam & evaluating of Rank 5 for promotion competition to practise Sanshou, above 80 points from the exam of Wushu theory and emphasize culture of Wushu moral.

1. Those who have gained the total points up to above 27 from the required exam & evaluating of Rank 6 for promotion competition to practice one set of barehanded boxing, one set of short weapon and one set of long weapon (or two sets of barehanded boxing),one set of sparring (only needed for Taiji series) and one of the items can reach the scope of matriculate, above 85 points from the required exam of Wushu theory and emphasize culture of Wushu moral.


2. Tose whose points can reach the scope of matriculate for the the required exam & evaluating of Rank 6 for promotion competition to practise Sanshou, above 85 points from the exam of Wushu theory and emphasize culture of Wushu moral.

Rank Promotion of Senior Grade
I – Those who have held Rank 6 for over 6 years, a certain of achievement on the study of Wushu theory and bookmaking of scientific research, Wushu working with a noble moral, may be awarded Rank 7.

II – Those who have held Rank 7 for for over 5 years, a great achievement on the study of Wushu theory and bookmaking of scientific research, Wushu working with a noble moral, may be awarded Rank 8.

III – Those who have held Rank 8, a great achievement on Wushu working and research of theory, an excellent contribution and extended influence on sports of Wushu with noble moral, may be awarded Rank 9.

IV – Those who have made an excellent contribution and extended influence on the development of Wushu career, judged by China Wushu International Development Center (CWIDC), maye be awarded Senior Honour Rank.

Article 4. Measures on Application, Exam & Evaluating and Examination & Approval
I – These who have abided by moral of Wushu and love Wushu, may apply to be granted a Wushu Rank. CWIDC Technique Exam & Evaluating Committee and China Wushu Website authorized by CWIDC have the only qualification to organize the Exam & Evaluating.
II – China Wushu Website will have exam & evaluating on Wushu forms or Sanshou of promotion qualification and Rank 1 to Rank 6 for the applicants organized by qualified Wushu institution, and submit the qualified files of applicants to CWIDC Technique Exam & Evaluating Committee for the approval, may gain the corresponding certificate of qualification and Rank.
III- CWIDC Technique Exam & Evaluating Committee bears to organize the Exam & Evaluating of Rank 7, Rank 8, Rank 9, submits the qualified files to CWIDC for approval and awards the qualified applicants corresponding certificates of Rank.
IV – The styles of Exam & Evaluating for each rank includes:

1. All sorts of Wushu competition (include international ones ) on the provincial level or the above.
2. The stipulated Exam & Evaluating of rank promotion.

I – Certificate: Made and designed by CWIDC
II – Uniform: Made and designed by the factory appointed by CWIDC
III – Badge: Made and designed by the factory appointed by CWIDC

• Elementary Grade: Rank 1 (Green eagle), Rank 2 (Silver eagle), Rank 3 (Golden eagle)


• Middle Grade: Rank 4 (Green tiger), Rank 5 (Silver tiger), Rank 6 (Golden tiger)


• Senior Grade: Rank 7 (Green dragon), Rank 8 (Silver dragon), Rank 9 (Golden dragon)
